A Historic Day for Raheny GAA

Raheny played their first ever Minor A Hurling Championship final v St. Vincents at 11am in Whitehall GAA’s pitch in Cloghran on Sunday 21st November 2021. 

A cold and sunny winters morning witnessed Raheny supporters arriving in droves to support the team. 

St. Vincents won the last encounter by seven points and were many peoples hot favourites before the match. Raheny had belief though – by the bucketload. 
Although Vincent’s were first to open the scoring Raheny went in at half time three points up Raheny 1-06 (9) St.Vincents 0-06 (6).

Within four minutes into the second half St. Vincents levelled the game. 

After the second half water break St Vincents were in a slight lead and looking strong.

This Raheny team have a never say die attitude and as long as there is time in the clock they will keep trying. Next attack, next score. St Vincents were leading by two points when In the 55th minute, a Raheny free was launched high into the air towards the Vincent’s goal, and with some pressure by Raheny, the keeper misjudged the ball and it ended up in the back-of-the-net. The Raheny sideline erupted with an almighty roar.

The last five minutes of the game was extremely tense with both teams giving it everything they had. Raheny’s defence stood strong once again, a few tactical changes from management and determined and skilful play from our forwards saw Raheny win the game on a final scoreline Raheny 2-11 (17) St. Vincent’s 0-13 (13).

Well done to all the players, parents, coaches and management on a historic day for Raheny GAA.
