Senior Hurling Match Report v Balinteer
Date: 26th June
Venue: Marlay Park
Competition: AHL 2 Round 7
Raheny 0-12 Balinteer St.Johns 0-12
For the second time this year our ssnior hurlers travelled across to Marlay Park to take on Balinteer. Just like the first time around it proved to be a tough encounter but the team gave a good account of themselves. Despite travelling with only 17 players due to injuries and holidays, Raheny started the game well and led early on by a couple of points. Eoghan Keogh received a head injury early on and could not continue which added extra pressure to the midfield workload.
However, Raheny battled well in the first half with Gavin Beaddie outstanding and the full back line in general looking very solid. Declan Myers produced two immaculate hooks in succession soon after to deny Balinteer a certain goal. Half time and Raheny led by one point. The second saw Raheny extend their lead to four points but Balinteer were never far away and came back into the game in the last ten minutes. Stephen Kelly and Sean Dempsey added some fine scores and the barnstorming runs of John Ryan from midfield created many opportunities for the forward line. Balinteer showed why they are top of the league though and finished strongly with the final 3 points of the game to gain a draw which was a fair result in the end.
