Match report for Saturday 5th June v Naomh Barrog

Well done to the under 10 footballers who beat Naomh Barrog by 86-68 in the sunshine last Saturday morning .

The A team played a very entertaining game to lead at half time on a scoreline of 24 to 6. The close marking by Raheny of the Barrog players kept Barrog's score low. Niall Walsh and Sean Farrelly both kept with their markers throughout the game and when they won possession they moved the ball quickly to the midfield and forward line to enable them to score 8 pts without reply.

Barrog responded in the second half by scoring six unanswered points to level the match at 24pts a piece. Raheny regrouped after this and for the remainder of the game only allowed Barrog to score one more point. Daragh Nolan, who moved into defence in this period, worked tiredlessly in helping the other defenders prevent Naomh Barrog from getting any more scores.

Daragh Kane was able to pick out the midfielders of Darren Brannigan , Adam Mc Cormack and Kevin Byrne with good kick outs and they subsequently passed it into forwards James Keane and Brian Maher who continuously lost their markers with their quick movement and neat hand passing. Raheny’s good work rate, marking, passing and fielding throughout the whole game helped them to run out comprehensive winners on a score line of 48pts to 27pts.

The B team played good stuff to lead 14-8 at half time. However, in the second half Barrog came back strong and put the Raheny defence under pressure and looked like winning but Raheny rallied and scored some good points and a last minute score from Simon Geoghegan proving the match winner at 28-25. It was a good fair game on a very hot morning and Barrog were unfortunate to lose out. Declan McDermott did well in midfield and in goal, with Daragh English superb in defence with Conor Kelly and Tom Keogh. Adam Codd worked hard with Liam Synnott up front and Michael Brennan also did well in the midfield. Well done Raheny B!

Hard luck to the C team who played well and kept going right to the end in a tight game but lost out by 16-10. Joint Man of the match for Raheny were Eoin Finnan and Patrick Kelly. Mark Branigan scored a great point and Jack Welsh got a great goal. Players who play in defence must concentrate 100% and not let Barrog forwards in for easy scores. This is what cost us the match and we must learn from it but well played Raheny.

Hi to Stephen and Conor, hope youre having a great time !

Hurling Blitz Sat 12th in St Pauls. More details from Colm.
