Under 10 footballers lose overall to Castleknock

25th May 2010

Hard luck to the under 10 footballers who lost overall by 55-71 against Castleknock in the sunshine last Saturday morning.

Team of the week is the B team who won by 23-9. Following on from a narrow defeat to Whitehall this was a great performance. The marking was very tight and the passing was really good. The score was 13-4 at half time and 23-9 at full time to Raheny . This was the best defensive display of the year so far for this team and combined with passing, running and scoring on a hot day lead to a very good win. Well done to Liam Dunne, Stephen O’Shea and Conor Kelly who shared goalkeeper and defensive duties and to Liam Synott who deputised from midfield when injured and pulled off two saves.

Tom Keogh had a great game with some lovely points but it was a great team effort to set these scores up. The other midfielders on the day Simon Geoghegan and Jordan Doyle played well. Upfront Darragh English scored a goal and a point and Declan McDermott and Adam Codd were also good. The blocking of the opposition and willingness to pass was very encouraging. Keep it up lads!.

The C team played very well again but lost out 14-19 in a well contested match. Only for some wides Raheny could have won. Sam Donohue was great in goals with two good saves and good kickouts. well done Sam, keep it up. A good goalie is very important for the team. Aidan O Kane gave 100% as usual and showed his never say die attitude and got a skill point for a great high catch. Raheny's scores came from Mark Branigan, Patrick Kelly and Glen Duffy and kept Raheny in the match with 2 other skill points for high catches from Jack Welsh and Glen Duffy the most satisfying. well done boys, keep it up.

The A team lost 18-43 to a very unnecessarily physical Castleknock side. They have some good players but also some who need to be taught to keep their elbows and fists down. Raheny didnt make the most of our free kicks in the first half and were 9pts down at half time on a scoreline of 21pts to 12pts. Raheny were frustrated in the second half as Castleknock continued with the cynical fouls. Raheny were very wasteful with possession and passing in the second half and were only able to put up two points in the second half both scored by Brian Maher who used skill and pace to beat his opponents. Niall Walsh put in some good hard tackles in the middle of the field but as a team, Raheny were unable to cope with this physical game. Raheny faded from the game late on and Castleknock were able to run out comfortable winners in the end.

lessons we must learn quickly:

1. concentrate and mark your man at the back.

2. work harder when things arent going your way.

3. be first out to the ball

4. use the shoulder like we do in training.

5. move the ball quickly and move for return.

6. never give up.

Best wishes to Paul Garry, get well soon.
